My Passion Project
Sometimes we get the opportunity to design something that is both interesting and personally meaningful. Although I’ve always known about my Muscogee/Creek Indian ancestry, I never had the opportunity to be part of a tribe since I lived in California for most of my adult life. My mother’s Creek Indian family are originally from Georgia, then Alabama. After refusing to go on the “trail of tears” they finally settled in the Florida panhandle. I always felt it was important to respect my native ancestors by learning the customs and language. And now that I live in Florida, I’ve joined our local Creek tribe called Santa Rosa Creek Band of the Lower Muscogee. I wanted to find a way to serve my new found tribe, so I offered my design / production skills. The first design challenge was to create a branded look and feel for our tribe. I plan to build on my early design ideas over time. The designs shown here were created for our annual Creek Fest last year. How did everything turn out? We had the largest turn out in the 33 year history of the event. What’s next? Continuing to develop the tribe brand, a sponsorship guide, 2024 Creek Fest advertising and promotional materials.
